School’s out and summer’s heating up!

Taking a dip in a pool is a great way to cool down. But, for many families, joining a swim club is a budget buster. While lakes are a refreshing option, pools offer reliably clean and cold water – and a place to gather for playdates, too.

To help your family beat the heat, we’ve put together a list of public pools — including information about cost and hours. We hope it will come in handy during the steamy days of summer! Have a favorite pool we should add to this list? Let us know in the comment section below.

Barre City Pool 59 Parkside Terrace, Barre, 476-0257 
Cost: $3-4; free for children under 1.
Pool hours: Open swim Monday-Friday, noon-7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.

Button Bay State Park 5 Button Bay State Park Rd., Ferrisburgh, 475-2377 
Cost: Free with $2-4 park admission; free for children under 4.
Pool hours: Open swim seven days a week, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. & 3-6 p.m.

Elm Street Recreation Center Elm Street, Montpelier, 223-6829 
Cost: Montpelier residents: $3.50 for kids through high school age; $5.50 for adults; $11.50 per family. Non-residents: $7 for kids through high school age; $10 for adults; $19 per family
Pool hours: Open swim Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 1-8 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday, 1-7 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 1-5:30 p.m. Pool open exclusively for families Wednesday & Friday, 4:30-8 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday, 4:30-7 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 4:15-5:30 p.m.

Cost: $5 for children under 18; $12 for adults; free for members.
Pool hours: Open swim Monday, noon-1 p.m & 7-7:45 p.m.; Tuesday, noon-2 p.m & 4:30-5 p.m.; Wednesday, noon-1 p.m., 4:30-5 p.m. & 7-7:45 p.m.; Thursday, noon-2 p.m. & 4:30-6:30 p.m.; Friday, noon-1 p.m., 4-5:30 p.m. & 7-7:45 p.m. Check website for Saturday and Sunday hours.

Maple Street Park Pool 75 Maple Street, Essex Junction, 872-3370
Cost: $4 for children; $6 for adults; $2 off with proof of Essex Junction residency.
Pool hours: Open swim Monday-Friday, 12:30-8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11:15 a.m.-8 p.m.; pool open exclusively to families seven days a week, 5-6 p.m.

Middlebury Town Pool 298 Buttolph Drive, Middlebury, 388-4020
Cost: $2 for children 15 and under; $3 for adults.
Pool hours: Open swim seven days a week, 1-4:45 p.m. and family swim, 5:45-6:30 p.m.

Sand Hill Pool 208 Sand Hill Road, Essex, 878-2973
Cost: For Essex residents: $2 for children under 18; $3 for adults. For non-residents: $3 for children under 18; $4 for adults.
Pool hours: Open swim Monday-Friday; 1-8 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, noon-8 p.m. August family swim Monday & Wednesday, 5:30-8 p.m.

St. Albans City Pool 99 Aldis Street, St. Albans, 524-6796 
Cost: St. Albans residents: $5 for children and adults. Non-residents: $7 for children & adults. Hallf-price admission, 7-8:30 p.m.
Pool hours: Open swim Monday-Friday, 1-4 p.m. & 7-8:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. & 6-8:30 p.m.
