The Champlain Valley Fair kicks off today and runs through the end of August. For many kids, it's one of the highlights of the year. But if you go in without a game plan, it can be overstimulating, to say the least. We've compiled some info that will help you navigate the fairgrounds with relative ease.

We'd love to see photos of your kids at this year's fair — or pictures from fairs past. Post them on our Facebook page or below. We'll select a handful to include in our September issue.

Have fun at the fair!

Cost and Special Days:

Regular fair admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 get in free. Ride bracelets — which are good from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day — cost $30.

Friday, August 22, is the first day of the fair. Gates open at 3 p.m. Admission and ride bracelets are half price. On all subsequent days the fair gates open at 10 a.m.

Monday, August 25, is Kids Day. Children receive a 20 percent discount on admission.

On Wednesday, August 27, your entire carload receives parking, admission and ride bracelets for $60 with a coupon from Maplefields convenience store.

Mutts Gone Nuts: A comedy dog act that blends canine acrobatic performance and old-time comedy, featuring eight rescue dogs and their human counterparts. Daily at 1, 4, and 7 p.m. on the Ag Mall.

Steve Bayner: A hypnotist who varies his show based on participants' reactions. Daily at 12:30, 3:30, and 6:30 p.m. on the Adsit Mall.

Wild World of Animals: Creatures from arthropods to amphibians, birds to mammals teach kids interesting facts, while Fromm the opinionated pig provides comic relief. Daily at noon, 3 and 6 p.m. near the Pearl Street entrance.

The Amazing Winns: This family act includes daring feats including the Wheel of Death, Motorcycle on the High Wire and the Sway Pole. Daily at 11:30 a.m., 2:30, 4 and 7 p.m. on the East End of the Midway.

One Man Wild West Show:
Chris McDaniel shows off his western artistry skills with lasso tricks and more. Daily at 11 a.m., 2 and 5:30 p.m. in the plaza between Expo North and South.

West Texas Rattlesnake Show: A snake wrangler introduces rattlers to the crowd and teaches about these amazing creatures. Daily at 1:30, 4:30 and 6 p.m. in Expo South.

Wunderlee's Circus Extravaganza: Juggling, rhythmic ball bouncing, unicycle riding, plate spinning and ladder balancing wow a captive audience. Monday, August 25, at 5 p.m. Donations accepted.

A fair parade happens at 5 p.m. each day.
