Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

My son has been to every one of William's Shelburne chess camps over the last four years. He loves them, would not miss them and is looking forward to this year's camp in July. William is a great teacher in part because he's such a great player but more so because he is able to make learning chess a lot of fun. He really relates to young players.

My son's one disappointment is that William only comes to Vermont one week a year. My one disappointment is that my son now regularly beats me in chess.

Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

Both my daughter and son attended William's chess camps in past years. William is a great instructor. He is patient and clear to explain from fundamentals to advanced strategies. Moreover he makes the camp a place full of fun. It is also a good place for kids to make new friends.

Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

Our son has participated in Wills camp for years. One year, our niece from Wisconsin came too. Our son has tons of fun and often medals in state chess tournaments.

William is a great teacher, and our boys always look forward to Dynamic Chess camps. They have a lot of fun, they learn new tactics and strategies, and it keeps them at the top of their game. Highly recommended.

Re: “Adventures in Early Learning

Our daycare has been open since 1997 and is dedicated to providing care, safety and education to our clients. If we were at fault for what has been stated in the first review, we would not be open. Unfortunately, we cannot service clients who believe they are above our policies and state regulations thus putting our center and children at risk. As for harassment, we just ask that tuition be paid on time. Sending out four reminders over a six month period to pay is far from harassment. Every client is asked to follow the same policies. Only one client spent several months attacking all of our policies. We draw the line when staff are spoken to inappropriately with a "raised" voice in the presence of children. We will not be bullied and clearly the money was NOT important to us.

Re: “Birth Journeys

We live far from our relatives and didn't envision our families participating in our labor and delivery. After attending a childbirth education course taught by two Birth Journeys doulas (through the Beginnings program, prior to the doulas starting their own courses), we knew we wanted a guide, a support person, a doula at our birth. We felt so comfortable with their collective experience, familiarity with Fletcher Allen, and most of all their support for how we wanted to bring out child into the world-- no judgement. And our daughter's birth was wonderful because of their support. Birth Journeys were among the first people we announced our second pregnancy to! Jenna was wonderful at our son's birth. I wish I could provide a doula to every woman who wants one! Their playgroups have been a highlight for our young family, connecting us with other families, forming great friendships, and sharing joys, frustrations, and baby gear. The women of Birth Journeys will help you welcome your child into the world and supporting you through those amazing first years of childhood.

Re: “Birth Journeys

We went to Birth Journeys before the birth of our daughter and it was great! If you're worried it's going to be too hippy-full-of-sunshine-and-roses it's not. If you're worried they're going to scare-the-crap out of you they won't! It was just the right mix of information and encouragement. And when labor didn't go exactly as we had hoped, we were able to make informed decisions along the way that helped prevent us from having to have a c-section. Loved these ladies!

Re: “Birth Journeys

My husband and I have attended childbirth ed, newborn care, and play group every now and then. These women are GREAT! Informative, unbiased, helpful, and BEYOND nice. Before, during, and after! I totally wish I had one of them as my doula! While giving birth, I felt informed and strong knowing what they taught me! Changed my life!!! And Hunter, our son, just LOVES Jenna! Gotta be a sign ;)

Re: “Renaissance School

We have been renaissance parents for the last 5 years, and we can not begin to express what an incredible education our three daughters receive. The curriculum has far surpassed our expectations and the school does an incredible job of instilling a love of reading in the children. Most importantly, the children love their school and we see this among the whole student body as children enter the classroom with excitement and a smile on their faces each morning. The community is inclusive, fostering a student body that truly cares about one another and instills a strong sense of leadership, camaraderie, and empathy. Together, the school spends a full day at the outdoor classroom at Shelburne Farms, where everything they learned is put into practice in the environment. This is a special place.

Re: “Adventures in Early Learning

My children have been going to AEL for several years and we LOVE it! They are very family oriented and have lots of events throughout the year to help families stay involved in their children's education. We appreciate the staff and their dedication to our kids. Although they do have rules, we recognize that they are to protect the well being of our children and keep the quality of the program high. We have no complaints.

Re: “Birth Journeys

We went to Birth Journeys on recommendation from several of our friends and had an exceptional experience with them. We did our childbirth classes with Jenna and the weekly class was one of our favorite times during a very busy summer to stop and focus on the coming addition to our lives in a supportive, informative, and relaxed atmosphere. We also had the chance to meet with Genie and Francesca during the course of our time there and decided to go with the three ladies as our doulas because we felt most of all that we could trust them going into a time and place of much uncertainty. Our expectations were met and far surpassed; all three were so helpful and supportive in the weeks leading up to the birth and during what turned out to be a longer and more unexpected labor, Francesca was absolutely amazing, an absolute rock, and an incredible support, guide, friend and coach as we navigated all that was familiar and completely alien during the process. We are ever grateful to all of them for all that they've done for us.

Re: “Renaissance School

Renaissance is an amazing school. My children have a love of the outdoors, a kindness in their hearts and are better citizens because of the wonderful academics at this school. Two children went to this school and the third on his second year. We are so grateful to have this gem in our community.

Re: “Camp Little Notch

This camp is an exceptionally beautiful and secluded property. A gem. Camp Little Notch was a Girl Scout camp for 70 years. A group of alumni and other supporters have purchased the land and are carrying on the tradition of empowering girls and young women to be confident in themselves, aware of social justice, and able to live in harmony with nature. My daughter loved her 2 weeks. The girls determine for themselves what their time at camp will be. Free to be creative and active. Childhood memories and lifelong friends...

Re: “Trinity Baptist Church and School

We have two children who attend Trinity, both were removed from the local public schools for several reasons. Our kids are very different; they come with different skills and talents, and different needs as well. Even so, they both thrive in the consistent, structured environment that Trinity has to offer.

Teachers are caring, skilled, and compassionate. They expect great things from their students, hold them accountable for their actions, and reward them for a job well-done. They encourage parental involvement in classrooms and every other area of school life.

Trinity's time-honored, tried-and-true curricula provide a solid foundation for academic success. Students are encouraged to think, not just memorize (although memorization is important). And Trinity students, including ours, consistently rank well above the state and national levels in standardized tests.

In addition to the standard curricular materials, Trinity offers involvement in Yearbook, extracurricular sports, and fine arts, which further enhances my students' experiences. AND, the elementary kids get TWO recesses...which makes my kids very happy.

We looked at the other private school options within driving distance of our home (there are precious few around here) and found Trinity to be the "easiest" solution. We had no idea at the time that it would also be the BEST solution.

Re: “Trinity Baptist Church and School

My children have attended Trinity Baptist School for 9 years. We are very pleased with the education they are receiving and cannot say enough wonderful things about the excellent teaching staff! We visited several area schools before choosing Trinity, and are very pleased that we found this gem of a school. :) -Jennifer Anair

Re: “Birth Journeys

My husband and I attended Birth Journey's childbirth class which was both informative and encouraging. I loved having Jenna and Genie do a belly cast for me in my final month of pregnancy - somehow they made me feel like a Goddess which was not an easy task at that particular time.. Jenna was our doula for our daughter's birth which allowed us to prepare, make informed decisions, and ultimately empowered me to have a positive birth experience. She supported us in doing most of the labor at home, navigated us through the hospital, and was a calming supportive presence for my partner and I during the birth. Overall, Birth Journey's support, guidance, and knowledge assisted in our transition to parenthood...and continues to do so with their playgroups and henna parties, and ultimately as a resource in the community. They are wonderful and we are forever grateful for their support and care!
