Re: “West Swanton Orchards & Cider Mill

Great place to take the family. They have wagon rides out to the apple picking, goats for kids to pet and delicious apples, cider, doughnuts and home grown veggies and pumpkins when in season.

Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

This was an excellent experience for my son. He took part for the first time last summer and even though he was new and didn't know anybody, he was easily welcomed into the group. William is a fun person and a very knowledgeable chess teacher. My son loved the chess lessons and games, but also the outside times playing games like Capture the Flag. This was the highlight of the summer for him, and we are planning on doing it again.

The perfect mix of fun, and skill and a little competition. My son definitely learned a lot and it solidified his love of the game!

Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

My son has participated in a number of these camps and loved them. William is a great teacher, but also makes sure there's lots of fun involved for everyone regardless of their skill level.

Re: “Vermont Day School

VDS is an incredible community for our children. The curriculum is individualized, relevant, and engaging. There is a strong sense of community throughout the building- friendships form across classes from the youngest students to the oldest students. With seamless incorporation of 'extras' such as Spanish, music, drama, STEM, and art the students receive a well rounded education within the school day. Children are learning real life skills that many people do not master until adulthood- executive functioning, organization, working in teams. Each member of the school is welcoming, caring, excited and engaged. As parents we feel we can finally take a deep breath and watch our children grow in this incredible school! Thank you VDS we look forward to many more years!

Re: “Renaissance School

I went to Renaissance from 1st grade until 5th. When you walk in the school you are always happy to be there. All the students are kind to each other and the younger and older grades work together and form friendships. Instead of just doing worksheets, we go outside and learn the lessons by doing a project. My favorite class was French- I loved the interactive games we played to learn vocabulary.

Re: “Renaissance School

My son and daughter are in their second year at Renaissance and are thriving in so many ways. My children transitioned seamlessly into school and feel very at home at Renaissance. Within a couple of months, I was astonished at how much Spanish and French they had learned! I had been trying to teach my children Spanish at home for years, but at school the teachers play games, do projects, and make learning a second language fun. My children have both been challenged academically and are able to work at their level. My daughter reads far above grade level and I was very impressed at how the teachers met her needs and were creative in finding a way for her to be in a reading group at her level. The classes use nature to enhance their learning and spend time outdoors often. They also go on many field trips to places such as a bird sanctuary, apple orchard, pond at Shelburne Farms, Flynn Theater, Echo, Burlington Electric, and more. Because of the small school feeling, my children have developed relationships with children in all grades and feel very connected to kids of all ages. The students are kind and inclusive, follow the rules, and over all treat each other with respect. I have been so pleased to see how much my children have grown, how happy they are, and the many wonderful friendships they have developed at The Renaissance School!

Re: “Renaissance School

I currently have 2 children at Renaissance and it is an incredible school. The teachers are supportive and encouraging and my kids love going to school each day. It is a wonderful, nurturing place where the children in all grades interact as one big family. The language program (Spanish and French for all grades!) and the outdoor classroom at Shelburne Farms are huge bonuses. I am incredibly grateful to have my kids attend such a great school.

Re: “Renaissance School

Renaissance is an amazing school. My children have a love of the outdoors, a kindness in their hearts and are better citizens because of the wonderful academics at this school. Two children went to this school and the third on his second year. We are so grateful to have this gem in our community.

Re: “Renaissance School

We have been renaissance parents for the last 5 years, and we can not begin to express what an incredible education our three daughters receive. The curriculum has far surpassed our expectations and the school does an incredible job of instilling a love of reading in the children. Most importantly, the children love their school and we see this among the whole student body as children enter the classroom with excitement and a smile on their faces each morning. The community is inclusive, fostering a student body that truly cares about one another and instills a strong sense of leadership, camaraderie, and empathy. Together, the school spends a full day at the outdoor classroom at Shelburne Farms, where everything they learned is put into practice in the environment. This is a special place.

Re: “The Janet S. Munt Family Room

You're not going to find a more relaxed or nurturing place for you and your child to bond. Everyone is so supportive and there are no expectations except for you to be supportive, curteous, and the parent you want to be. The diversity of families represents greater burlington and integrates your child immediately into the acceptance and appreciation of different cultures. I went here with my 1st born who is now six! and im planning on bringing my 2nd once he arrive. (And its a plus that the food is amazing). Cant recommend it enough!

Re: “Arabesque Etc Dance

Martina not only has an amazing dance studio with Arabesque Etc., she has created a dance family that nurtures, challenges and loves every one of its members. My daughter is 9.5 and is in her fourth year with the studio. She has loved every minute of it, especially the opportunities for performance - from the Nutcracker Tea before Christmas to the Themed Showcases to the incredible story shows. It's incredible watching her learn and grow as a dancer and a young lady with the unconditional support and caring of Martina, her amazing instructors and the older dancers. Martina's excellence in dance and theater combined with her HUGE heart and love of dance makes Arabesque the ideal home for dancers of all levels. My daughter has loved the camps in the summer and is very much looking forward to camp this summer. Don't miss the show this year (2018) on June 2nd at Colchester High based on Mary Poppins!

Re: “Arabesque Etc Dance

My 15 year old daughter has been dancing with Arabesque, Etc. for the past several (3-4) years. It has been amazing for her on so many levels both mentally and physically. She is able to participate in several different genres of dance and the high level of teaching combined with the family friendly atmosphere is exactly what we are looking for. Great community, amazing shows, top notch!

Re: “Arabesque Etc Dance

If your kid loves to dance, this is the studio for you. A variety of styles of dance, offered at convenient times. Local kids can take the bus straight to the studio. Before or after childcare can often be arranged. My daughter started taking ballet when she was 13 and this has been such a terrific community for her.

Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

William is a great teacher, and our boys always look forward to Dynamic Chess camps. They have a lot of fun, they learn new tactics and strategies, and it keeps them at the top of their game. Highly recommended.

Re: “Vermont Chess Camp of Champions

My son has been to every one of William's Shelburne chess camps over the last four years. He loves them, would not miss them and is looking forward to this year's camp in July. William is a great teacher in part because he's such a great player but more so because he is able to make learning chess a lot of fun. He really relates to young players.

My son's one disappointment is that William only comes to Vermont one week a year. My one disappointment is that my son now regularly beats me in chess.

Re: “Mansfield Cooperative School

My child has attended the Mansfield Cooperative for two years. In that time, a lot has changed for her. She went from hating school and dragging her feet every morning, to loving school and being sad when snow days are called. She has learned organizational skills and continues to become a better and better self-motivated, problem solver. Her skills in writing have been celebrated and encouraged and her struggles have also been acknowledged and strategies to help her make progress have been successful. I am so glad that we made the choice to have her attend this school.
