Re: “Theater in the Woods Camp

Theater in the Woods camp offers campers the precious opportunity to muddy the lines between work and play. Campers channel their creative intelligences to write scripts, to learn lines, and to execute wonderful culminating performances in an enchanted theatrical space (the woods!), all of which requires work: active listening, patience, commitment, rehearsal, cooperation. However, the magic of the camp stems from the ways in which the directors--all of whom are incredibly talented, gracious, thoughtful, and caring people--blend and balance intentional games and free play with the theatrical tasks at hand. And it sure doesn't hurt that the camp is situated in a BEAUTIFUL space/place, complete with a spacious old barn, rolling meadows, woodlands, and...water! Yes, water, a favorite play spot for kids young and old. My two children have been a part of the TIW community, one as a counselor for a couple of years and the other as a camper for four years, and both have come away from their experiences fulfilled, joyful, and alive. Sign up, check it out, encourage your child: I'm pretty confident that once they arrived, they'll want to make Theater in the Woods Camp, like many already have, an annual summer tradition.
